With the staging of the recent IAAF games in which Jamaican athletes showcased their skills, and even more recently Asafa Powell clocking 9.74 to beat his own World Record of 9.77seconds, the UK launch of Jamaican Athletics: A model for the World is very timely.
A Jamaican by birth, Patrick Robinson now resides in The Hague, Netherlands, where he is a judge with the United National International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia.
This book, while being a salute to the natural talent in athletics of Jamaicans, it also serves to identify the basis for Jamaica's success in global athletics. Even though Jamaica has had tremendous success, it is the system that has evolved since 1910 that underpins and explains our high quality performances at the international level.
